The Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County |

The Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County is a non-proft organization
created in 1972 to gather, preserve and share the historical and genealogical records of the area. Extensive
records are available for Rutherford County and many surrounding counties. The library also has some information for almost
all NC counties and other states.
The Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County, NC, Inc. is a designated
Family Search Center. This center is an affiliate of the Genealogical Society of Utah's Research and Library
System, LDS. |

Haynes Branch Library |

The Haynes Branch Library began in Cliffside during the 1920's. In 1977, the library was moved to its current location, and named the Haynes Branch Library in honor of Raleigh Rutherford Haynes, one of the founders of the area's textile industry. The library features well-balanced collections of fiction for children and adults, nonfiction and reference books, and a video collection. Children's reading programs are offered each summer. Public computer workstations and wireless access are also available. |

Isothermal Community College Library houses a collection of nonfiction items supporting the college curriculum, more than one hundred current periodicals, and online resources. A photocopier, computer workstations, and wireless access are available for public use. The Old Tryon Historical Collection contains items on local and regional North Carolina history; and local newspapers, NC census, and NC county records, all on microfilm. |

Mooneyham Public Library |

Mooneyham Public Library, Forest City's municipal library, began as a small collection housed in an upstairs room in Forest City's City Hall and moved to its current location in 1964. The library features a collection of adult fiction and an attractive children's room. Programs for children are held during summer months. The library facility includes a downstairs room that may be rented for private parties and meetings. Public computer workstations and wireless access are also available. |

Mountains Branch Library |

The Mountains Branch Library was opened to the public in October 1995. In addition to a core collection of books, the library also houses collections of videotapes, audiocassettes and CDs. Adult and children's programs are offered throughout the year. A meeting room is available for community programs. Public computer workstations and wireless access are also available. |

Norris Public Library |

The Norris Public Library was established in 1922 as the municipal library for the city of Rutherfordton. Featured in the library's holdings are a children's collection; an adult fiction collection; a nonfiction collection strong in the arts and gardening sections; a variety of periodicals; and a vertical file of local history and other material. Children's story hours are available. Public computer workstations and wireless access are also available. |

Polk County Public Library |

The Polk County Public Library system's main library is in Columbus, the county seat. The outlying county is also served by the Saluda Public Library and the bookmobile. Both buildings are wireless hot spots and have Public Internet Access. The library has an active children's program and a wide selection of materials. |

The Rutherford County Library, established in 1938 as a bookmobile library, was housed in the Norris Library until 1965. The county library moved to two other locations before the current building was opened to the public in January 1983. The library holdings include strong adult fiction and nonfiction collections and an important local history and genealogy collection. Children's programs are offered throughout the year. Public computer workstations and wireless access are also available. |

The Spindale Public Library, municipal library of Spindale, was established in 1926. The library features well-developed adult and children's fiction collections, and houses a large child-friendly area for children's programs. Special children's programs are available year round and a summer reading program for all ages which includes a weekly story time. The library also provides new release DVDs. Public computer workstations,wireless access, fee based copy and fax services, and free document scanning to email are also available. |
